My First Visit

Consultation

On your first visit to our office you will be welcomed as a member of our family and our receptionist will greet you with a warm smile. You will then be asked to fill out our required forms which will help us gain some information about yourself and your condition.

Dr. John Haberströh, or an associate doctor will then talk with you and ask you some specific questions regarding your condition to determine if chiropractic care may be of benefit to you. If the doctors at Boston Spine Clinics can help you, they will let you know. If the doctors feel they cannot help you, you will be refered to a doctor that will be able to help you the most. Nothing will be done in our office without your consent.

Examination

If you decide to become a patient either after a consult or after simply presenting to our office,  you will have a complete chiropractic examination. This will include taking a thorough case history, obtaining basic vital signs, a clinical neurological testing pattern that includes taking your reflexes, obtaining a ROM (range of motion) of your neck and low back usually, as well as other standard orthopedic, grip strength, postural, and physical inventories. The doctor will gain valuable information regarding your condition so that a better understanding of what your problem is and how chiropractic can (or can't)help you. If necessary, the doctor may take X-rays or refer you for additional testing procedures.

*Case History: A few additional words on the case history: As the old medical saying goes, barring the bizarre, a good doctor who listens can often make the correct diagnosis by just listening to the history as the patient states it. Additionally, key questions by the doctor along the way can help guide the patient's history in the proper direction. All of which is to say, Dr. Haberstroh takes a good deal of time with the case history to ensure that the most accurate diagnosis is made on every patient. Occasionally the signs, symptoms or both don't point to a single entity and thus a "Differential Diagnosis" is rendered which means that a few of the "most likely" causes of a condition are mentioned. Dr. Haberstroh will occasionally send a patient out for additional imaging such as an MRI, Bone Scan, CT Scan or perhaps even a blood workup if that is what he feels is needed to render a definitive diagnosis. In any event, present and past medical issues are discussed at length in the case history section of a patient's file to ensure that all relevant facts have been obtained.

X-ray

X-ray is sometimes required to get a full evaluation of a patient. The need for X-ray is considered on a case by case basis. Our equipment is state of the art for imaging. Please turn to our section on X-Ray for more details regaring this important modality.

Report of Findings (second visit)

Once all the information and examinations have been performed, you will be booked in for another appointment and the doctor will give you a "Report of Findings" which is simply a summation of what we found. All findings will be related to you as well as risks and alternative treatment options. Assuming we have accepted you for treatment, we will then tell you our recommened plan for treatment. Bear in mind, every patient has a different situation. No two treatment plans are the same just as no two conditions are exactly the same. Every patient is treated individually. Occasionally, the doctor will treat a patient on the first day after a ROFs due to an acute problem that needs prompt attention. Normally however, the ROFs is done on the second visit to our office.

Treatment (after the exam and ROFs)

Most of our patients begin to see results from early in the treatment regime. Our special, gentle yet effective adjustments to the spine are interactive with the patient, gentle enough for kids (they love us), yet able to restore function and movement for the athlete and senior. We may also opt to apply certain therapies such as intersegmental traction, electrical stim, home exercise, in-office rehabilitation and/or physical therapy to a patient's treatment protocol.

Our office participates in many insurance programs. We also accept auto accident liens and workers compensation cases. To find out if your insurance covers chiropractic care, you can call Boston Spine Clinics directly or schedule your free consultation at 617.666.1767, or fill out the insurance form. We offer everyone a free, no obligation consultation.

For patients who have little or no chiropractic insurance coverage, flexible payment programs can be arranged.
